They suit food-motivated dogs and many cats, but not pets on strict diets, those with food allergies, or multi-pet homes where one animal grabs everything. Hard treats can also jam some dispensers if they are the wrong size. Use them in moderation and count the treats as part of the day's food.

Treat it like any internet-connected camera: set a strong, unique password, turn on two-factor authentication when it is offered, and keep the firmware updated. Buying from an established brand that ships security patches helps, and it is worth reviewing what the app stores and shares. These are general best practices rather than a guarantee, since no connected device is perfectly private.

It goes both ways. Some pets settle at the sound of a familiar voice, while others get confused or agitated hunting for a person who is not there. Try short, calm check-ins and watch the reaction; if your pet seems more distressed, it is better to just watch quietly.
